In the beautiful and historic Loess Hills of Southwest
Iowa lies a dormant dream waiting to come true.
In a few years, the hills will ring with the sound of laughter
and the shouts of children attending a very special camp.
These are special children who may never have attended
an outdoor camp before ~ never had the opportunity
to swim in a lake, play in a tree or ride a horse.
And... some of these children won't grow to adulthood.
But, they will have the opportunity to experience
Hole in the Hills ~ a special camp for special
children with serious illnesses. They will enjoy that
feeling of "just being a kid," perhaps for the first time
in their lives.
When complete, Hole in the Hills will host week-
long sessions for 1,000 to 1,200 midwestern special
needs children every summer at no charge. During the
off-season, we'll offer weekend camps for families,
siblings and special interest groups.
Parents and siblings will also have the option of staying
close to their loved one at the new Wa-Shawtee addition
to Waubonsie State Park. Or, they may enjoy a much-
-needed and seldom-achieved vacation away from
the rigors of life with severe medical challenges.
Entire families will benefit from the sensitive and
responsible care that will be offered at Hole in the Hills. We'll provide an environment where special
kids are not limited by their health challenges and
all kids will wish they could come!
